Sheraton Kampala Hotel has donated food stuff worth shs3,000,000 to New Midland Islamic Orphanage in Kawempe to enable the children successfully complete the last days of Islamic fasting period, Ramadan.
Speaking at the handover ceremony held the Orphanage, Abdelmoneim ElBashary, the Hotel’s Director of Finance and Administration noted that, “It is part of our company’s policy to support each other regardless of one’s religion or background. Prior to COVID 19 we used to invite children to dine with us at the Hotel but because of the SOPs in line with gatherings, we could not do so but had to find alternative ways to offer our support to the kids throughout Ramadan.”
Sheikh Haruna Hamis Kikulukunya, Director of New Midland Islamic Orphanage thanked Sheraton Kampala Hotel for the support highlighting that the orphanage depends on donations from the public and called upon Government to set up regional orphanages as the number of helpless children continues to grow.
“We always receive donations from people and companies that come to support us, Inshah Allah. Through this support, we are able to pay taxes, dress and feed the children and attend to their medical bills considering the children do not pay anything to the school. Because of the prevailing health conditions and diseases, we have seen a growth in the number of orphans and call upon government to set up regional orphanages to support these children. Here we have over 300 children coming from all parts of the country and we get them through the Local Councils and they are properly registered with Government.”
The Orphanage has been in existence for 32 years and is home to over 300 orphans aged between 3 to 18 years from across the country.
Ms. Aisha Mambo, Director of Human Resources on behalf of the Hotel promised continued support to the orphanage saying, “We may not have too much but you can always reach out to us and we will be able to support you in every possible way.”
The Hotel’s donation included rice, posho flour, cooking oil, washing soap, soda among others.
