President Yoweri Museveni has advised Ugandans to continue farming, saying the COVID-19 pandemic that’s ravaging Uganda and the world at large is likely to cause famine within the country.
“While we continue to struggle with the virus, production in agriculture and industry must continue. Otherwise, we shall end up with no food and no factory products,” the President appealed through his Twitter handle.
While presenting a statement on impact of Coronovirus in Uganda to Parliament, Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance warned that the outbreak would see 2.6million Ugandans slip back into poverty.
It should be recalled that while issuing another set of directives aimed at combating the spread of COVID19, the President banned use of public transport for passengers and only exempted motorcycles, trucks carrying food items to operate to ensure Ugandans have access to food during the Quarantine.
The Presidential appeal comes at the time the Ministry of Health just confirmed that out of 225 samples run yesterday, 7 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed positive bringing total to 30 confirmed cases. 218 samples have tested negative.
