Coca Cola Unveils Kenzo As ‘Green Ambassador’ In Its Tree Planting Campaign

Coca Cola Beverages Africa has partnered with Environment Social Safeguards International and National Forestry Authority (NFA) to launch campaign aimed at planting over 4,000 trees.

Speaking at launch event at Coca Cola plant in Namanve on Friday, Simon Kaheru, the Public Affairs & Communications at Coca Cola Beverages Africa said the campaign is aimed at combating climate change and protecting the environment.

Musician Eddy Kenzo was also unveiled as the “Green Ambassador” in this campaign.

“We are looking to beat climate change but also protecting the environment by planting trees. Planting trees is one of the most important things we can do as Coca cola Beverages to contribute to conserving the environment,” Kaheru said.

Kaheru said that each employee will show their will to protect the environment by planting one tree at the plant and take home one extra tree to plant in their compounds or farms.

Kenzo, the Semyekozo fame artist applauded Coca Cola for the opportunity to play part in saving the environment.

“If you plant a tree, you give a life. It’s a blessing to start 2020 as a Green Ambassador,” he said.

National Forestry Authority Spokesperson, Aisha Alibhai said that their target is to have 24% of the country covered with trees by 2040 as it was the case in 1990.

“We are now at 12% and in 2015, Uganda was at 9%. Right now NFA is promoting planting of natural trees like Mahogany,” Alibhai said.

Alibhai said 40 million trees can help change the future generation if every Ugandan is committed.

NFA said they have 35 nurseries spread across the country giving out free tree seedlings.
