Three suspected armed robbers have been killed during an exchange with security personnel along Masese road in Jinja district, URN reports.
The
deceased were allegedly heading for a robbery mission at Masese Landing Site,
when their vehicle, a Toyota-Corona, registration number UAP 449S was
intercepted by the Police Flying Squad Unit.
One of the Flying Squad members who preferred anonymity told URN that the
suspects were firing at police personnel while resisting arrest, prompting a
shooting which left three of them dead. One SMG riffle was also recovered
in the vehicle.
Kiira Regional Police Commander Paul Nkore says that police acted on a tip off
from informers about the planned robbery. Nkore adds that two of the suspects
died on spot, while the third one was pronounced dead on arrival at the
hospital.
Area councilor Julius Nabambula says that the suspects are part of the criminal
gang that has been terrorizing the district.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Jinja Hospital Mortuary
