Liquid Telecom in partnership with Financial Sector Deepening Uganda and Innovation Village has rewarded Shs18m to Kenneth Legesi of NFT Consult.
The insight2impact’s DataHack4FI (Financial Inclusion) season 2 grand finale which was held on 19th April 2018 at Protea Hotel Kampala had 10 participant teams at the final, where Legesi emerged winner.
These included Sophie Nanteza paired with Future Link Technologies, Kenneth Legesi of NFT Consult paired with Akello Bank.
Others included, DICKSON KATTO paired with Sula Pay, Otim Samuel paired with Moquid, Steven Ntambi with mcash, Vitalis Asiku with True African, Nelson Mulera Mugisha with MamboPay and Edward Omara with
EzeeMoney.
Speaking at the sidelines of the event, Barbara Nannono, the Sales & Marketing Manager at Liquid Telecom said that the cloud data based Telecom Company decided to provide data infrastructure to help innovators achieve their goals.
“As a business, we are trying to support start ups and engaging them by using our services by providing the infrastructures needed for financial inclusion,” she said.
She added that the competition encourages finance, tech and data enthusiasts to collaborate in using data and analytics to solve business challenges and extend financial services to undeserved communities.
NFT Consult, which supports SME businesses by providing data-driven, action-oriented solutions to challenging business problems will represent Uganda to join winners from Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia in Kigali Rwanda to compete for US$25000 (about sh90M).
Joel Muhumuza, the Manager at Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Uganda said that the criteria for the competition involve groups or individuals with innovative ideas using data to further financial inclusion in Uganda.
“We launched it in January and it has taken 3 months, all the existing innovators can apply whether new or old because we feel some existing brands could be having gaps and can learn from the competition to fill
the existing gaps,” he explained.
Jack Muwanguzi from Innovate Village, a local IT hub based in Ntinda said that the facility is instrumental in nurturing and providing resources to IT innovators and help them build solutions for financial inclusion.
