SC Villa beat Masavu 1-0 today to remain top of the Azam uganda Premier League table as a first half Erisa Sekisambu penalty earned them a sweet revenge at Namboole.
Vipers lost the first round game 2-1 at Kitende and revenged that loss although they endured a nervy finish.
The game was evenly contested with Sekisambu denied an early goal for a foul from Patrick Mbowa but his chance came in the 41st minute when Milton Karisa was fouled again.
Until that time, the game was devoid of goal-mouth action.
URA’s limpse of goal came from Shafiq Kagium and Saidi Kyeyune’s free kick but the performance was far from convincing.
Villa remain top with win over Masavu
Villa remain four points clear at the top of the Azam Uganda Premier League as they beat Masavu 1-0 at Masaka Recreation Centre.
A 1-1 draw with bright Stars and a 2-0 loss to KCCA stifled Villa’s title ambitions but after breaking Onduparaka’s unbeaten home run, faith was renewed.
The Jogoos were in confident mood and it was Martin Kizza who is enjoying his most prolific season ever in the blue shirt, the hero as he hit the only goal of the game.
He scored a penalty just before the half time mark.
SC Villa are top with 43 points while Masavu stay at the bottom with 19 points.
Jinja SS surge to top four
Kirinya Jinja SS’ good run continued with a 2-1 away win to Maroons as they climbed to the fourth place.
The Jinja side is unbeaten in their last six games of the second round.
Elsewhere, Onduparaka, who fired coach Livingstone Mbabazi today, drew 0-0 away to UPDF.
Today’s results: URA 0-1 Vipers, UPDF 0-0 Onduparaka, Maroons 1-2 K. Jinja SS, Villa 1-0 Masavu
