The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has signed and awarded a contract to “Strategic Friends International Limited”, a Ugandan firm for consultancy services for the preparation of a master plan and strategic Environmental Assessment for the Development of the source of the Nile Area-Uganda, into a World Class Tourism Destination.
This Consultancy project is going to deliver on several objectives, which include;
A 20 year master plan for the development of the source of Nile development area, that considers among others, Planning and management of the destination, Institutional strengthening, legislation and regulation review, product development, marketing and promotion, infrastructure development, source of the Nile area developments concepts with artistic and architectural impressions of Tourists infrastructure and facilities, Human resource development, Conservation of the Natural and cultural heritage, private sector capacity development, community tourism development, among others.
A costed Implementation plan with detailed plans and a 20-year implementation matrix, models and realistic budgets for undertaking the strategic interventions in the master plan.
A strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) OF THE Master plan and establish the environmental and social economic sustainability of the proposed development of the source of the Nile Area.
While signing and handing over the Contract, the PS, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Mrs. Doreen S Katusiime expressed that the long-awaited project is in accordance with the National Development Plan, 1 and 11, and also in the Tourism Sector Master Plan.
She said that the project is in the hands of 30 experts who shall work together to deliver on their newly attained mandate in 45 weeks.
The Head of Party and Programmes of Strategic Friends International Limited, Mr. Kosea, has promised to deliver the finished product in the stipulated period.
