A top Minister in the Ugandan Cabinet has been named by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) among the top 150 tax defaulters in the country.
Gume Fredrick Ngobi, the Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Cooperatives) owes the tax body Shs82.7m in VAT.
Ngobi is also the Member of Parliament for Bulamogi North West County in Kaliro District.

URA says if defaulters don’t comply within a week, enforcement will follow. In total, the shamed tax defaulters owe URA over Shs11bn.
URA, headed by Doris Akol (in featured photo) as Commissioner General has lately come up with several measures of ensuring increased tax compliance.
The tax body is expected to collect Shs16.3 trillion in tax revenue in 2018/19.
