Embattled Rwenzururu Kingdom is mourning the death of one of its “European envoys,” Williams Kinzeghere Bukombi who passed away at King George Hospital in Illford, London ate last month.
Williams Bukombi, appointed by the Omusinga Wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma, was a trusted confidant of the latter, and an ardent supporter of the role of OBR in the affairs and constitutional make-up of Uganda.
Bukombi whose body arrived on Wednesday was laid to rest at his home in Ibanda, Busongora North, Kasese District.
He together with British Author and Tom Stacey, initiated the ongoing petition to the International Criminal Court in the Hague to have Museveni arraigned for what they called “gross abuse of human rights.”
This followed the attack by the military on the Rwenzururu Palace last November that claimed the lives of more than 100 people.
According to Tom Stacey, “It was a long-standing heart condition that led to the death of Williams late last month in a hospital near where he worked as a highly regarded member of England’s Probation Service for offenders.”
However, our sources have intimated to us that friends who attended Thursday’s burial were not convinced with the reason put forward as his cause of death with some suspecting foul play.
Stacey has since vowed to continue with the efforts.
After his death, Kasese Municipality lawmaker wrote;
“This gallant son of the soil Williams Bukombi leaves us at a critical moment when we need him most. We have gone through many struggles of OBR with him including handing our petition to the UK Parliament when the state killed our people. Bukombi loved Rwenzururu with a passion to the effect that he gave it his all I remain indebted to him for his guidance when we were challenged with the November 26th attacks may the Almighty grant him eternal rest till we meet.”
