Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze Bakireke (pictured) has asked the Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Olive Kamya Namisango to consider publication of the wealth of the public servants and political leaders in a bid to fight corruption.
She made the remarks as Uganda joined rest of the world to commemorate the 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day that seeks to highlight the rights and responsibilities of everyone in tackling corruption.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament on Thursday, Nambooze said that the IGG should do away with the policy of archiving the declaration forms of leaders and public servants but making it public that the public knows who owns what assets and help in question how one acquired them.
She said that this would expose all the individuals who could have acquired some wealth in a fraudulent way and face law as way of fighting corruption and ensuring integrity in leaders.
She added that government should put in use section 5 of the Anti-corruption law to arrest any person on presumption of corruption .
The lawmaker also promised that if her political party becomes the ruling government in future, it Nationalize all assets of individuals who will have acquired them through corruption.
