President Museveni has warned traders in Kampala who are hiking prices of essential commodities, terming them as “useless crook”.
He made the remarks this afternoon at State House Entebbe whiling updating the nation on the current status of the COVID-19 situation.
“Anyone who hikes prices in town I will cancel your license. We will send people to come as buyers and we get you. You will never trade again in Uganda,” Museveni said.
This comes after traders in Kampala increased items of essential household items such as salt, rice and sugar among others. Sugar is now trading at Shs6,000 in many areas surrounding Kampala, up from Shs3500 before Uganda announced her first COVID-19 case. A kilogram of salt is now selling at Shs3000, up from Shs1500.
He revealed that the first Ugandan to test positive to cronavirus is responding positively.
Uganda has nine confirmed cases of Coronavirus.
