Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, 73, has revealed the secret behind his fitness and good health despite his advancing age.
“I have managed to make it to 73 years of age because I do not drink alcohol. I have been here for the last 30 years and all this time you have never heard that Museveni is sick and is in hospital. I do not have time for sickness,” Museveni said, advising Ugandans to avoid promiscuous behaviour and alcoholism because they risk catching diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
He noted that many of the diseases would be blocked forever if people ensured proper hygiene, good nutrition, slept under treated mosquito nets and got immunised.
“On health, the government’s most successful effort has been immunisation. We started with 8 vaccines but are now on 13 vaccines including against Hepatitis B,” he said.
Museveni made the remarks on Friday at the Thanksgiving of Ngora Woman MP, Jacquiline Amongin at Bishop Kitching College Demonstration School Playground.
He also passed out 5,600 graduates from the Jacqueline Amongi Development Foundation Skills and Incubation Centre. The graduates were trained in tailoring, carpentry, piggery, poultry and liquid soap making.
He later broke ground for the Ngora-Nyero-Kumi water supply and sanitation project at Agu village. The Shs24.5 billion project to be completed in June 2018 will supply 10 million litres of water per day.
