The Bank of Uganda 2019 Annual report has revealed that the value of mobile money transactions decreased by 8.4 percent from shs73.08 trillion to shs66.95 trillion during the year to June 2019.
However, the report adds that the number of mobile money transactions in the country have risen from 1.3bn to to 2.51 billion during the same period. This increase represents 78%, an indication that Ugandans have not been fazed by the taxes on the services.
The registered mobile money users increased by 12.4 percent from 22.7 million to 25.8 million during the year out of which, 15.5 million or 59.9 percent were active users.
