Embattled Makerere University don Dr. Stellla Nyanzi faces arrest over harassment, Business Focus has established.
In a letter from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) dated March2, 2017 addressed to Stella Nyanzi through Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu, Nyanzi is wanted at CID to record a statement tomorrow (Tuesday) over “Offensive Communication and Cyber Harassment.”
The main theme of the letter seen by Business Focus reads thus; INVITATION FOR AN INTERVIEW AND STATEMENT RECORDING VIDE CID HQTRS GEF 122/2017.
“Pursuant to section 27a of the police Act, you are required to report to Criminal Investigations Directorate Headquarters in Kibuli on Tuesday7th /03/2017 at 10.00 hrs to assist in providing valuable information in respect to the matter being investigated,” the letter signed off by Joseph Obwona on behalf of Director Criminal Investigations, reads the letter in part.
It adds: “You will report to the Deputy Director Investigations for further guidance.”
Sources reveal that the MAK Don could be grilled for posts she made criticising the First Lady, Janet Museveni.
“She has recently made Facebook posts that could be deemed insulting to the person of the First Lady and that’s why police’s cyber unit got concerned,” our highly placed CID source intimated to us.
On February 15th, she wrote a post bashing Janet for asking parliament to understand that Uganda has no money to buy sanitary pads for school going girls.
We have learnt that Ddumba received the letter on Friday March3, 2017 and directed the HR to deliver it to Dr. Nyanzi, who is popular for undressing before cameras over her misunderstandings with Prof. Mahmood Mamdani, the director of the Makerere Institute of Social Research.
The nudity act saw Nyanzi suspended by the University. However, Makerere ended her suspension a few months ago.
