The Minister of Ethics and Integrity, Rev. Fr. Simon Lokodo has called for the closure of schools suspected of habouring paedophiles who are sodomizing infants.
He says their continued operations will see destroy more children.
Lokodo (pictured) made the plea after reports that Ismail Muyomba a teacher from King Fahad Secondary School sodomized a 13 year old boy at St. Peters’ Primary Boarding school, with the suspect now being held at Katwe Police station.
The Minister said that the sexual violence has increased in schools and that several teachers are culprits of this vice especially in boarding schools, adding that the rate at which girls and boys are being sodomized is alarming.
He says the fight against the vice is hampered by fear of victims to speak out for fear of being victimized in public.
“Every time one does that, the reprimand isn’t clear, this has made the behaviour spread and you know in that way, we can almost question every school. The only thing to do is a school found to be doing that should be closed, a school should be closed because it is no longer a school but destroyers of future children so that others will be conscious now, every school administration will be saying I must be conscious,” said Lokodo.
It is worth noting that a 2018 report on Uganda Violence Against Children Survey Findings From A National Survey Prevalence indicated that of 18-24 year old Ugandans, one in three girls (35%) and one in six boys (17%) reported experiencing sexual violence during their childhoods.
Of Ugandans ages 13-17 years, one in four girls (25%) and one in ten boys (11%) reported sexual violence in the past year.
Lokodo says due to the absence of strong Law to apprehend such culprits has encouraged the spread of these bad acts and encouraged the abuser keep the habit.
