Kwania District Councilors Demand Probe Into Diversion Of Shs 300 Million

Kwania District Councilors are demanding a probe over the alleged misappropriation of 300 Million Shillings from the education department.

It is alleged that Andrew Omunu, the District Education Officer diverted 300 Million Shillings that was meant for the supply of desks to primary schools in the financial year 2021/2022 under Sector Conditional Grant (SFG, to pay GOBs Investment Limited, a company that was contracted to construct Aduku Seed Secondary School.

Dorcus Wangari Ogwang, the Chairperson of the Education and Health Committee accused the district executive committee of having a hand in the alleged misappropriation of the funds. She is now demanding an external audit into the alleged diversion of the fund.

Kwania District Leader of Government Business Geoffrey Eling Owera says that the district allowed the reallocation of the fund to prevent Gobs Investment Limited from suing the district to court. He however called for a special audit into the alleged misappropriation.

Christopher Agum, Kwania District Speaker said the council approved the 300 million shillings strictly for purchasing desks, and diverting the fund is contrary to Financial Accounting Regulations of 2007. He directed the Resident District Commissioner to take action on the matter.

Canon Richard Ogwang Odyero, Kwania Resident District Commissioner says that the district received 1.8 billion shillings to construct Aduku seed school and the money was to cater for all retentions that include payment of the contractor undertaking the project.

He pledged to follow up the matter to the dot to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

We pray to God 🙏 for the ongoing plans.

  2. The officials who diverted the funds should be interrogated.
