The World football governing body FIFA has approved more money to be given to member associations under the Forward programme in the new four-year cycle that starts next year.
Uganda which is also a member of Fifa will benefit from the Forward programme.
The eighth FIFA Council meeting that sat in Kigali, Rwanda on Friday approved a new cycle which will see every association get 6 million US dollars (UGX22,500,000,000).
“We have established the forward programme under the new cycle starting 2019 and each member of FIFA will receive 6 million US dollars in the four years,” Gianni Infantino revealed the development to the media at the Convention centre. It marks a 1 million US dollar (UGX3,750,000,000) increment from the 5 million that was given previously to associations ending next year.
Infantino explained that associations will get 1 million US dollars every year for the next four years to cater for operations costs, competitions for men and women and refereeing programmes. “If an association dos not organize these competitions and programmes then they will not get the money,” explained Infantino.
He made it clear that the remaining 2 million US dollars (UGX7,500,000,000) to be spread over the four years will go towards specific programs as per the needs of different associations and infrastructure. “We want each association to have one proper pitch that can organize international game,” added Infantino.
Each of the Confederations will also get 12 million US dollars every year, while the zones in Africa including CECAFA and Asia will have 1 million US dollars every year earmarked for boys, girls and women tournaments.
“Accountability at FIFA has also been further strengthened. Each association must now engage services of a statutory auditor, and each association will be subjected to a central review by an international auditing company,” Infantino said during the press conference.
Almary Kabele Camara, a FIFA Council member from Guinea later URN that the meeting was very fruitful. “The Meeting was successful as will approved increase of money to associations which will help in developing football more,” Camara told URN in a brief interview at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
