EC To Conduct Fresh Nominations In Electoral Areas Where A Nominated Candidate Died

 The Electoral  Commission  has  appointed Tuesday 22nd and  Wednesday 23rd December  2020 as  dates  for conducting  fresh  nominations electoral areas where death occurred of a nominated candidate.

According to Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, this is in accordance with Section 26 of the Parliamentary Elections Act.

The affected electoral areas include the following;

In a press release dated December 18, 2020, EC boss  Byabakama says  that  the  candidates  who  were previously duly  nominated to  contest  in  the  above  elective  positions shall not be required to be nominated again. “Aspiring  candidates  can  collect  copies  of  the  nomination  forms  and  guidelines for nominations  for the  above elective positions from the respective District Electoral Commission offices, or obtain soft copies of the forms and guidelines from the Electoral Commission website: www.ec.or.ug,” Byabakama says.

He adds: “All persons  participating  in  the  nomination  exercise  shall  be  required  to  comply  with  guidelines  issued  by  the Electoral  Commission  in  accordance  with  the  Government  of  Uganda  and  Ministry  of  Health  measures  against the spread of COVID-19. This includes observing social distancing, hand washing, and wearing of masks.”
