A group of Cuban medics, including five doctors and nine nurses, have arrived in Mozambique to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
They will be stationed in hospitals in the capital, Maputo, which is the epicentre of the pandemic in the country, according to health ministry official Ussene Isse.
In total, 45 Cuban health care professionals are expected to arrive in the country, he said.
A second group is expected to arrive in Maputo on 2 February. They will include 25 doctors and six nurses.
Mozambique has so far reported 32,418 coronavirus cases since the pandemic started with 305 deaths.
