Various Vulnerable groups in Uganda have called upon government and concerned organizations to remember them during this COVID19 lockdown through provision of food relief items.
Groups that include Salon operators, boda bodas and employees in bars among others have said that though President Yoweri Museveni categorized them as vulnerable groups, they have for the last 2 months not been working, but also have not received relief items like other people.
The Head of Kampala Saloon Association, Abdul Kareem Mucunguzi (pictured), says salon operators were earning daily incomes before lockdown but now the situation has worsened since they can get essential items including food.
“…We earn a daily income of about Shs10, 000 but now we are out of business. We call upon everybody; friends, government and organizations to assist us with basic necessities,” he said.
Mucunguzi adds that everyone Ugandan can bear witness the importance of their services especially in taking care of their hair, nails, skin and others.
“Now if you take a look at yourselves, you can appreciate the work of salon operators as essential workers. Your hair, nails, skin can tell how important we are,” he said.
