TRANSITION: Museveni Invites Religious Leaders For Talks

Pressure is mounting on Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni to quit power peacefully.

This is after another bishop added on other voices calling for Museveni’s early retirement.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of  St. Elizabeth Chapel at Kyebambe Girls Secondary School  in Fort Portal town on Saturday, Rwenzori diocese (COU) Bishop, Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo appealed to President Museveni to hand over power in a peaceful way for the good of the country.

“After the amendment of the constitution on age limit, you should not deny us peaceful transition of power” Bishop Kisembo told Museveni face to face.

It should be noted that the Archbishop of Kampala, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga eary this year said Museveni and other politicians should stop intimidating religious leaders, noting that they are also Ugandans and must talk about the ‘bad’ politics in the country.

In response to the bishop Kisembo, Museveni revealed how he has invited religious leaders to talk about the issue of him quitting power thoroughly.

“To the bishop, I say read Ecclesiastes 3:1-3. It says there is time for everything. I have invited the religious people so that we talk thoroughly. We should have a disciplined way of interacting. The country must be guided we cannot afford to make mistakes by anybody,” Museveni said.

He added that the  government will contribute Shs300 million towards the chapel’s completion.

Museveni was  in Fort Portal, Kabarole District to officiate at three key functions. The second activity in Fort Portal Town was the launch of Kalya Courts Hotel, owned by Mzee Isaya Kalya and his wife.

A retired Resident District Commissioner, Mzee Kalya also sent one of his children to join us in His final  activity of the day was the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a Shs6 billion stadium at Buhinga on the outskirts of Fort Portal Town.

He added that similar stadia will be built in Bunyoro, Ankole and Kigezi, each to cost Shs6b. The stadia come with extras of a tennis court, hotel facility and other hospitality facilities.

“The public should know that government runs its programmes on the principle of prioritization. For example, while construction of a stadium is cheaper than a road, the latter is more critical for our economic development,” Museveni said.
