Embattled Kazinda To Lose All His Property – IGG

Troubled former Principal Accountant in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Godfrey Kazinda is set to lose all his property acquired through illicit means, Irene Mulyagonja, the Inspector General of Government (IGG) has said.

Appearing before the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee on Friday to defend their 2018/2019 budget, Mulyagonja said plans are in final stages for Government to attach the properties of jailed Kazinda.

According to the Budget Framework Paper, the Inspectorate is set to receive  Shs53.9bn in the 2018/19 budget.

She gave an example of a property Bukoto, a Kampala suburb that is about to be taken over so as to recover money government lost.

“…There is a criminal action [against Kazinda] which is ongoing on right now which we hope that if we are successful, we will be able to take over the property and return it to Government,” Mulyagonja said.

A few years ago the Anti-Corruption Court found Kazinda guilty of gross embezzlement and causing financial loss to the government.

The Legal Committee Chairperson, Markson Oboth Oboth praised the IGG for doing a commendable job in both fighting corruption and enforcement of the Leadership Code of Conduct.

“We are glad for your endeavours and parliament would not hesitate to move a substantive motion to extend your tenure due to public interests,” Oboth said.

However, the IGG also revealed before the Committee how her job is stressful, noting that she can’t wait for her tenure to expire.

She added that she has no intentions of having her contract renewed.

“This is a tedious and stressful job that makes it difficult to be in charge for many years.  I am glad my contract is about to expire and I take a rest,” Mulyagonja, who took over office from Justice Faith Mwondha in 2012, said.

Her contract was renewed in 2016 and is expected to expire in 2021.
