Toll collections from the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway have grown to Shs75 billion in 2023, up from Shs35 billion recorded in 2022.
The revelation has been made by Egis Road Operations, a French company contracted by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to maintain the Expressway. The toll operations were launched in January 2022.
Motorists on the Expressway pay between Shs5,000 and Shs18,000, depending on the size of their vehicle.
In a post on X on Thursday, Egis said: “The contractor on Kampala – Entebbe Expressway has collected Seventy-five billion Ugandan shillings (UGX 75 B) on behalf of @UNRA_UG since tolling commencement on 8th January 2022.”
All tolling revenue is collected and immediately passed to the UNRA account, which directly credits the consolidated account of Uganda. Egis is paid separately by UNRA to Operate & Maintain the Kampala Entebbe Expressway.
“We appreciate the people of Uganda, particularly the road users who have utilized the Expressway. Their support and dedication to this modern transport network reflects their commitment to progress and development of the nation,” the contractor said.
