The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala on on August 17, 2023 inaugurated the Civil-Military Aviation Policy Board (CMAB) at the ministry headquarters in Kampala.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring flight safety in the Uganda airspace, noting that the CMAB will further enhance safety in the country’s airspace management.
The primary objectives of the board include ensuring streamlined air traffic management, compliance with ICAO guidelines, and enhancement of national aviation security.
The establishment of this board and its three committees is a requirement for the International Civil Aviation Organisation for enhanced air safety and security. The board comprises of representatives from the civil aviation Authority and the Uganda Peoples’ Defense air force.
The appointed members of the CMAB are; Fred Bamwesigye – Director General at Uganda Civil Aviation Authority as Co-chair; Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi – Commander, Uganda People’s Defense Airforce – Co-chair; Brig. Gen Stephen Kigundu – Deputy Commander, Uganda People’s Defense Airforce; Olive Birungi Lumonya – Deputy Director General, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority; Brig Gen David Mugisha – Commander, Special Forces Command; Richard M. Ruhesi – Director Air Navigation Services, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (Secretary); Col. Paul Namawa – Director Operations, Special Forces Command; Eng. Ronny Barongo – Director Safety, Security and Economic Regulation, UCAA and Eng. Sooma Ayub – Director Airports and Aviation Security, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.
