Journalist turned politician Keefa Nuwahereza (pictured) has vowed to contest for the position of LC 3 Kamwokya 2C Zone, to replace the former area Chairperson James Kakooza, who was killed on July 16th, 2022 around Centenary Park, as he jogged in the morning.
Keefa, who says he has the full backing of the National Unity Platform (NUP), says he hopes to get NUP ticket.
If he gets the NUP ticket, he will contest against Mark Nickson Lukyamuzi, who is the son of the fallen Chairperson Kakooza.
Kakooza was murdered in cold blood in the middle of the city and although some suspects were arrested, none of them has ever been arraigned in court over the matter and the police have since gone silent about investigations into his brutal murder.
Lukyamuzi, who is contesting on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, intends to replace his deceased father, who was serving as both the LC.1 and LC.3 for the area prior to his murder.
Keefa, as he is popularly known, has vowed that if given a chance to lead the area, he will ensure that he works towards uplifting the lives of people in Kamwokya, especially the youth.
He has also vowed to be the voice for the voiceless in Kamwokya, especially the elderly, single mothers, teenage girls and to ensure that government, through the concerned authorities, improves sanitation in the area.
Keefa has promised to work hand in hand with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and other local authorities in the area to ensure that the drainage in Kamwokya is improved.
He also vows to work hand in hand with the police and other concerned personnel to ensure that security for people and their properties is maintained in Kamwokya at all times.
It is however not yet clear whether renowned opposition parties like the Democratic Party (DP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), JEEMA and others will front candidates for the position.
It should be noted that although Kamwokya is a NUP stronghold, with lots of supporters for the party principal Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the city suburb also boasts of several NRM supporters, reason why Kakooza, who was a staunch NRM member, was voted Chairperson.
Keefa, a NUP candidate, is therefore headed for an uphill task in his bid to replace Kakooza, who was a staunch member of the ruling NRM party.
