Octagon Africa Launches Financial Literacy Training Dubbed ‘Young Money Africa’ For Youth & Teens In Uganda & Zambia

Octagon Africa Limited has today launched a financial literacy training for teens and youth aged 8 – 22years scheduled for 26th and 27 August 2022 under its Young Money Africa Campaign.

The free two-day training will be delivered virtually by highly experienced financial experts from 10:00am to 12:00pm EAT and 9:00am to 11:00am CAT respectively. The training has been segmented according to the age groups with the first training happening on 26th for youth aged 16 – 22years. The second training is scheduled for 27th for teens aged 8 – 15years who require supervision from their parents.

According to Paul Kyambadde, the Client Relationship Manager at Octagon Uganda, it’s important to prepare the future generation to face the realities of the time by empowering them with the right financial education. In Africa, most focus is placed on the physical, emotional, spiritual wellbeing of the children ignoring financial wellness. It’s important to catch them young.

“At Octagon, we’re placed to support parents to fill in the financial knowledge gap that children may experience while growing up. In Africa, most children grow up without being educated on how to create wealth and manage their finances early in life and yet we know, finance is considered the cornerstone of prosperity and security builds confidence and knowledge in individuals’ lives,” he said.

“On a daily basis, we’re faced with constant choices, to save, invest or spend. We want to help children understand the value of what they receive as they grow-up into responsible members of society,” he added.

Agnes Banda, Client Relationship Manager Octagon Zambia, reiterated the importance of nurturing a healthy financial lifestyle early in life.

“Life is full of uncertainties, it’s every parent’s desire to see their children make the most out of this life. Empowering them to understand how finances work is critical. Under the Young Money Africa campaign, we want to reach at least 1,000 young people to benefit from this mentorship. This is just one of the many trainings we are planning to have,” she concluded.
