Police have asked members of parliament who want to hold joint consultations to notify the force on how many of their colleagues will be attending the consultations.
Police Spokesperson, Asan Kasingye, says they have been blocking joint opposition consultation meetings on the presidential age limit removal, because many opposition legislators haven’t been informing police on the number of MPs they expect and details of their meetings.
He however, says any MP who hopes to invite his colleagues for joint consultations should write to Police detailing the names of MPs to allow for proper preparation and provision of security.
He also warns MPs against inciting the public instead consulting on the presidential age limit. “Let them go and consult but they must know that there are laws of this country, they are the ones who passed these laws.You don’t go into a school where people are doing exams and you say you were consulting,” he said.
Police have repeatedly foiled joint consultation meeting by opposition legislators on the proposed amendment of the presidential age limit. Last week, police turned away five MPs who turned up for a joint consultative meeting organised by the Lubaga South MP, Kato Lubwama in Natete in Lubaga Division.
