Raphael Magyezi, the Local Government Minister
Government is set to purchase vehicles for mayors of 10 new cities and eight new districts chairpersons.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi while appearing before the Public service and Local Government committee of parliament chaired Godfrey Onzima.
Each vehicle will cost Shs200m.
Magyezi said that the money that was meant for municipalities in new cities across the is to be given to cities. He also proposed that he will push cabinet to exempt tax from the councilors’ payment of Shs250,000.
But the money is too much.
