Dr. Galiwango Presents Papers To UN, Pledges Uganda’s Full Support

The recently appointed Permanent Representative of Uganda to the UN Office in Nairobi (UNON), and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), Dr. Hassan Galiwango, has Wednesday presented his papers before Zainab Hawa Bangura, Director -General of the UNON.

“I am honoured and most privileged to have been appointed as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uganda to the UNON, UNEP and UNHABITAT,” Dr. Galiwango said in his virtual opening remark, and went on to present his credentials: “I take this honor to formally and virtually present my credentials to the UN Secretary-General as the Representative of the Republic of Uganda to the UN Office in Nairobi (UNON), and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).”

During his presentation, Dr. Galiwango recognized the United Nations as the world’s most important forum for Multilateral Diplomacy.

“I recognize the magnitude of the work at the UNEP and UNHABITAT, I am ready to support the common agenda and spearhead the multilateral work with full cooperation and engagement of Member States,” the former NRM party Director for Mobilization said.

In this regard, he added: “Uganda’s vision is to strengthen the leadership role, visibility and impact of UNEA and in mobilizing all the UN member States to take higher ambitions and commitments in addressing the three planetary crises of pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change among other issues.”

Dr. Galiwango pledged Uganda’s commitment to supporting UN Habitat’s main mandate to implement the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 on sustainable cities and communities.

He commended the UN for supporting Uganda on her efforts towards sustainable Development and uplifting the standards of living of the People of Uganda.

To this, Dr. Galiwango reiterated Uganda’s full support and cooperation to the activities, programs and projects of the UNON, UN-Habitat and UNEP.

“Uganda greatly recognizes the importance of the UN office in Nairobi as the only UN office Headquartered on the Africa continent and I pledge Uganda’s full support. I look forward to a fruitful collaboration with the UNON and working more closely with the UN SG and his representatives at the UNEP and UHABITAT with a view of putting humanity on a path toward a more prosperous and sustainable future without leaving any one behind,” he said.
