A latest report has exposed Africa’s most expensive cities to live in, Business Focus reports.
Harare (Zimbabwe) is Africa’s most expensive African city to live in, according to a cost of living index prepared for various cities across the world.
According to Expatistan, an online cost of living calculator, Harare’s price index stands at 129. The report that was updated on September17, 2017 (yesterday) takes into account the cost of food, housing (accommodation), clothes, transport, personal care and entertainment to arrive at this list.
To have a basic lunch time meal in Harare, one needs to have over 8 US dollars (about UShs28, 768).
Monthly rent for 85 m2 (900 Sqft) furnished accommodation in EXPENSIVE area goes for $ 1,669 (Shs6, 000,000) while monthly rent for 85 m2 (900 Sqft) furnished accommodation in NORMAL area goes for $873
Port Louis (Mauritius) is the second most expensive with a price index of 116. It is followed by Pretoria (South Africa) with a price index of 112.
Nairobi (Kenya) comes as the 4th most expensive city in Africa with a price index of109.
Johannesburg (South Africa) is Africa’s 5th most expensive city in Africa. Its price index stands at 107.
Other expensive cities in Africa in order include Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) with a price index of 102, Windhoek (Namibia) with a price index of 101, Cape Town (South Africa) with a price index of 100, Durban (South Africa) with a price index 92, Casablanca (Morocco) with a price index of 88, Gaborone (Botswana) with index of 83, Algiers (Algeria) with a price index of 82, Tunis (Tunisia) with a price index of 60 and Cairo (Egypt) with a price index of 54.
