Power Blackout Looms As Another Floating Island Sighted Approaching Nalubaale & Kiira Dams

Eskom Uganda Limited (EUL) has revealed that its team has espied a floating island, 7kms away approaching Nalubaale and Kiira Dams, raising fears that this may lead to power interruptions.

“We’re onsite to manage it and avoid any power interruptions as much as possible,” Eskom said on its twitter handle.

Eskom is the biggest hydro electricity generation company in Uganda.

Power distributor, Umeme Ltd also tweeted: “We have received information about a floating Island which is likely to affect our services. We shall however do our best to maintain uninterrupted service as much as duly possible. Keep your devices charged.”

It should be noted that a few months ago, floating islands blocked Nalubaale and Kiira dams, resulting into countrywide power disruptions.
