Government will tomorrow Thursday table before Parliament a set of regulations that will guide political parties as they conduct their party primaries ahead of 2021 general elections.
The revelation was made by the Attorney General, William Byaruhanga as he interfaced with the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee today.
The Committee has commenced inquiries into the revised ‘scientific’ election road map by announced by the Electoral Commission recently.
This after the Asuman Basalirwa (Bugiri Municipality) challenged the Electoral Commission on a number of legal matters surrounding the digital campaigns.
He wondered how political parties are going to conduct their party primaries yet public gathering was banned by EC as candidates gather for support.
Basalirwa noted that public meetings are granted in the law, citing the Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Acts that require that either candidates or their agents should hold meetings as a statutory requirement.
In response, the Attorney General revealed that Ministry of Justice is already equipped with the regulations that will guide and address the fears of MPs and that this is being done in interest to have credible elections.
However,Parliament remains with the powers to either approve or decline the regulations.
