The Uganda government has so far distributed 2.2 million masks to seven districts as the country fights the spread of coronavirus.
This was announced by the ministry of health on Wednesday saying the consignments include 590,606 face masks for Arua District that will be delivered on Thursday.
“To-date, 2,220,601 face masks have been distributed to 8 districts of: Amuru, Kyotera, Busia, Adjumani, Isingiro, Rakai and Moyo,” the brief statement posted on Twitter says.
Results from samples tested on 23 June 2020 confirmed eight new COVID-19 cases bringing the country’s total to 805.
All new confirmed cases are Ugandans.
Government is putting much emphasis on encouraging citizens to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On Monday, President Yoweri Museveni allowed private cars to carry four people on condition that they all wear masks. The government had previously allowed 3 people in a every private car.
