COVID-19 Cases Rise To 264 As Contacts Of Positive Truck Drivers Contract Disease

Uganda’s coronavirus cases have risen to 264 from 260 after two truck drivers and two contacts of previously confirmed truckers tested positive.

The news comes a day after president Yoweri Museveni announced that there will be continued easing of the nationwide lock down beginning next week.

It is the first time in many weeks that the country has confirmed positive cases among the community.

A 26-year-old from Kyambogo is one of the contacts that tested positive while the other is a resident of Buikwe district. Both were in quarantine when their results were released.

Majority of Uganda’s COVID-19 cases have emerged from truck drivers making trip across the East Africa region.

According to the ministry of health, there are 80 admitted patients of COVID-19 in Uganda. The country has not registered any deaths related to the disease and has 65 recoveries.
