A security gate at tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia’s Shs36bn hotel project in Entebbe, on Ssese islands under construction collapsed on Sunday causing injures to construction workers.
Consequently, construction works have been put on halt until investigations are done to ensure safety of the private contractors’ workers.
The Property owner, Sudhir Ruparelia confirmed the incident and the said investigations on the works that were being done by a private contractors are ongoing.
“It is true (the gate collapsed). No one died and the few injured are being treated at Entebbe Hospital. These are contractors’ workers. We are investigating as it was contracted to a private contractor. Works will resume after investigations to ensure safety of the workers,” Sudhir said in an interview.
Currently, police have sealed off the construction venue.
Entebbe police boss Michael Kasigire said investigations are ongoing but blamed the contractor, Turnkey builders, for lack of due diligence.
The hotel sits on a 20-acre piece of land, and it projected to consist of 350 guest rooms. Its construction is estimated to take a period of 3years and expected to boost Uganda’s tourism sector.
