The Government of Uganda through Ministry of Foreign Affairs has unveiled plans to evacuate Ugandans citizens trapped in United Kingdom as the Coronovirus pandemic ravages the European nation.
The details of the evacuation plan are contained in a letter from the Uganda High Commission- London alerting Ugandans interested in leaving UK for Uganda to alert the Mission before 20th April 2020.
“The Uganda High Commission, London is seeking to register and verify stranded Uganda Nationals who are currently in the United Kingdom and Ireland and because of the COVID-19 pandemic are not able to return home,” the letter reads in part.
The Mission also revealed that such individuals may also include students who have completed their studies and short term visitors of all categories.
However, Government has exceptions of people they can’t evacuate including Ugandans who already have a settled status in UK and Ireland.
For those interested, the Ministry has asked them to furnish details of their contact and address in UK and Ireland, details of their bio-data of their Ugandan passport, scanned page of their UK or Ireland Visa as well as copy of their return ticket if available.
The development comes at the time Uganda has 55 confirmed COVID-19 cases. 15 have already recovered. UK has recorded 108,692 cases and 14,576 deaths.
