The continued spread of coronavirus across the world could jeopardise Uganda’s general elections next year if court grants a one Abbey Mgugu’s request.
According to an affidavit seen by this publication, Abbey wants the High Court to declare a state of emergency in the country and compel the Electoral Commission to postpone any forthcoming elections to either 2026 or a later date.
Uganda has no registered cases of coronavirus (COVID-19).
In his affidavit, Abbey wants court to compel the EC to suspend the polls until it is capable of offsetting the virus that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has since declared a global pandemic.
