Ethiopian Delegation Visits Uganda To Explore Cooperation, Trade Opportunities

Ethiopian public diplomacy delegation comprising of 30 distinguished persons will from 26th November to 1st December 2019 visit Uganda to explore more cooperation opportunities for Uganda and Ethiopia.

The delegation headed by H.E Tagesse Chafo, Speaker of the house of the Peoples’ representative –parliament of Ethiopia comprises of persons in different fields including politics, history, media, culture and economy.

During the announcement of the visit on Monday 25th November 2019 at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alfred Nammu, Representing the Permanent Secretary of The Foreign ministry said that the main objectives of the Ethiopian delegation are to strengthen and deepen the bilateral ties and institutional links across different levels of government and civil society and add impetus to the existing economic and political relations between the 2 countries.

“The public diplomacy delegation visit to Uganda is one of the ways the people of the two countries can explore their common historic and cultural assets and share lessons learnt. The general objectives of the visit are to strengthen and deepen bilateral ties and build enduring connection through integrated cultural events and institutional links,” he said.

Amb Alfred said that during the visit, the speaker will meet President  Yoweri Museveni, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, ministers, chamber of commerce, stakeholders in business and tourism, artists associations among others.

 He added that the major activities will include a Business Forum and panel of discussion and dinner which will be held on 29th November 2019. The delegation will also visit historical and religious sites and tourist attractions which he says will be crowned with a cultural gala night with Ethiopian communities in Uganda on November 30th 2019.

H.E Alemtsehay Meseret, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to the Republic of Uganda, hailed Uganda for supporting peace and security in the horn of Africa adding that Uganda and Ethiopia are major contributors.

Meseret said that historically Uganda and Ethiopia  have had a longstanding and cordial bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation which she says can be justified by many events including the visit of Emperor Sellassi of Ethiopia to Uganda in 1942, the opening of Uganda’s mission in Ethiopia in 1970, and Ethiopia opening hers in 1995, signing of many bilateral agreements, the commencement of flights from Ethiopia to Uganda among others.
