Opposition Democratic Party (DP) president, Norbert Mao has finalyy agreed to hand over the leadership to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party.
In a letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of the Inter-Party organisation on Dialogue (IPOD), Mao says they will organize and hand over the leadership to FDC.
IPOD is an umbrella of political parties with representation in parliament. These include the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), the Democratic Party (DP) Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) and Justice Forum (JEEMA).
Mao has been head of the rotational IPOD leadership role since March this year.
He was supposed to hand over to FDC after the end of his six month tenure as IPOD leader. His delayed handover had been a bone of contention between him and the FDC.
IPOD was set up in 2010 to bring together leaders of all political shades in the country to foster a strong and vibrant multiparty democracy in Uganda based on peaceful co-existence of all citizens.
The platform brings together all of Uganda’s parliamentary political parties. As equal members of the platform, these parties all have an equal voice.
