A Ugandan film about male violence against women – ‘Bed of Thorns’ – has won the African category at an independent film festival in London.
The movie director and producer, Eleanor Nabwiso spoke to the BBC’s Newsday programme about how her film is trying to force Ugandan society to end the taboo of gender-based violence.
“It’s time someone spoke out about this,” she said.
Nabwiso, uses her work to reach out to women who are enduring Gender Based Violence (GBV), to speak out and be heard.
It is food for thought to ask if it is really worth staying in an abusive relationship for the sake of the children or if separation and actual divorce are suitable options when the abuse becomes habitual.
