Sanyu Babies Home To Construct Shs10bn Commercial Building

By Aloysious Kasoma

In their effort to find resources to take care of the innocent children, Sanyu Babies Home is planning to erect a commercial building worth $3m (Approximately Shs10bn).

The funds are expected to be raised from donations.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday at their home in Mengo where over

50 abandoned children are housed, Steven Kituuka, the Chairman Board of

Directors Sanyu Babies Home said that the facility is urgently needed to meet their needs.

“Uganda has got a very young generation below 25 years who should be very productive. However, these can’t even afford to look after their children and they end up dropping them in the bushes and toilets and sometimes at our gate here,” Kituuka said.

“When we project into the future and we see the problem ahead, this place can only accommodate 50 children but the number of children dropped every year is increasing,” he added.

He was speaking to Business Focus on the sidelines of the event where  Kansai Plascon Uganda handed over items worth Shs16M to help the children.

He added that the facility also has a backlog of boys who are not attracted to foster parents, which he thinks is due to cultural hereditary beliefs.

The facility spends over Ush65M monthly including salaries (without medical bills) but has no clear source of income apart from the well-wishers.

Kansai Plascon Uganda under their “Hold my Hand to 5’ campaign also paid all the unpaid bills for the home and promised to continue contributing off their paint products.

“For every litre of paint sold, Plascon plans to donate Shs1000 and we chose to donate the proceeds to Sanyu Babies Home as the first beneficiary,” said Santosh Gumte, the Kansai Plascon Managing Director.
