Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader, Mugisha Muntu has revealed that his new Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party is the only group that can lead Uganda to the promised land.
Muntu made the promise on Wednesday at Kampala Serena Hotel during the launch of the ANT launch.
“Most times, we criticize the current regime over many things that are physical but to me, the worst form of damage is when you crash the spirits of the people. That is what we must change in this country,” Muntu said.
He added, “ANT will be a party that delivers what it has promised. We are not asking Ugandans to do the impossible, we want Ugandans to realize that when working together, even the most difficult problems can be overcome.”
The former army commander also revealed his willingness to work with other opposition forces saying unity is the war he is fighting.
“We recognize that real change starts with unity, unity is the only war worth fighting. It’s the foundation of any great institution and country.
Our nation’s problems have always come from settling for less than more. It’s time for us to do more than endure, we must do more than just survive, we must do more as a nation and to do that we must come together without fear,” he said mostly referring to Democratic Party boss Norbert Mao and People Power boss Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
During the launch, Muntu was announced as the National Coordinator for the ANT, setting the stage for what appears to be squicky bum going into the 2021 general polls.
His party adds to the already existing political forces trying to unseat President Yoweri Museveni who was recently declared a sole candidate by the NRM for the 2021 elections.
New political sensation and People Power leader, Bobi Wine, who appeals mostly to the youth, has already declared his intentions to contest the polls.
Conspicuously missing at the launch was Kizza Besigye, also a former FDC party boss whose political position opposition kingpin has increasingly come under threat by new actors.
The two split in 2017 after disagreeing what strategy is best at removing the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
Muntu took veiled jabs at Besigye saying the latter’s methods will only work to sow seeds of hatred because the anger they inspire.
In his speech, Muntu, unveiled highlights of ANT policy he believes can transform Uganda.
“Uganda is the most entrepreneurial country in the world, and although most of our people’s businesses do not live beyond their first year, it means that with the right skills, we can be a nation of industry and technological advancement,” he said.
Muntu revealed that starting next week, his party will ‘walk’ the country to galvanize support for the party and according to some, arouse more anti-government feelings.
It waits to be seen how this will go on as President Museveni is also currently on a countrywide tour.
