400 suspected criminals in different parts of Kampala have been arrested in an operation.
Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Area, Patrick Onyango, said the suspected criminals were netted in areas of Kisenyi and all places surrounding Nakivubo channel.
The operation was conducted by police officers from the divisions of Katwe, Kabalagala, Old Kampala, Jinja Road, and Wandegeya.
Police said the operations were conducted to get rid of criminals that have made it a habit to victimize Kampala residents and business community by breaking into their shops, houses, snatching valuables like wallets and phones.
Onyango said many of the suspects are habitual offenders who had skipped police bond while others had court bails. He said some faces of the netted suspects had been wanted by different police stations for engaging in various criminal activities.
“Some of the suspects we have arrested had court bails, others police Bond, these we shall immediately take them to the various Courts or police stations that need them,” Onyango said.
Police said the suspects shall be screened so that those with no pending criminal cases will be set free. Onyango said the screening will be done tonight and tomorrow morning.
“We are going to screen them before processing their case files. They are likely to appear in court tomorrow. We urge members of the public to be vigilant,” he said.
A similar operation was conducted on Women’s Day, leading to the arrest of 300 suspects.
