The Uganda Communications Commission has suspended licenses of 24 radio stations for promoting and advertising witchcraft content as well as aiding and abetting electronic fraud.
UCC which is headed by Godfrey Mutabazi as Executive Director Tuesday tweeted on its official handle: “Proprietors of broadcasting stations ready @UCC_Official 4 a hearing on aiding & promoting witchcraft.”
The proprietors of the shut radio stations that appeared before the Commission for a hearing include Radio Kitara, Kiira FM, Victoria FM, Hits FM, Bamboo FM, Dana FM, Gold FM, Ssebo FM, Eye FM and RFM.
“They’ve all received shutdown orders to stop broadcasting immediately,” UCC said.
Other radio stations whose licenses have been suspended include Metro FM, Nile FM, Kagadi Broadcasting Services, Emambya FM,Village Club FM, Packwach FM,Tropical FM, Apex FM, Eastern Voice FM, Tiger FM, Greater African Radio, Gold FM, Dembe FM, and Radio 5.
