2025/26 Budget: Buganda Kingdom To Get Shs38.5bn In Compensation

Henry Musasizi, the Minister of State for Finance

The Government will compensate Buganda Kingdom with Shs38.5 billion in the 2025/26 Financial Year.

The revelation was made by Henry Musasizi, the Minister of State for Finance while appearing before Parliamentary Budget Committee to respond to issues raised by the Budget Committee on the draft estimates of revenue and expenditure for the next financial year.

Musasizi informed MPs that even though Shs154 billion is needed to compensate the Buganda Kingdom, Shs38.5 billion will be made available to the kingdom.

Musasizi says that the money owed by the kingdom will be paid in installments over the next four financial years.

The issue was raised in the committee by Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who questioned whether the Shs 120 billion allocated for compensation to various entities included the funds for Buganda Kingdom.

Musasizi also revealed that the Ministry of Works and Transport will receive Shs3.95 billion for the completion of works at the Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine in Namugongo.

He also revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries will receive Shs60 billion for the introduction of coffee growing in Northern Uganda.

Musasizi also informed MPs that 2.5 million beneficiaries have so far benefited from the Parish Development Model (PDM), with an additional Shs1.5 trillion earmarked to reach households that are yet to be covered.

However, Tororo North MP Geoffrey Ekanya raised concerns about the 100 parishes that have yet to be included in the PDM rollout, asking when they will be enrolled.
