10 Pupils Injured As Main Hall Collapses

10 pupils of Luubu Primary School in Mayuge district on Friday sustained injuries after the main hall collapsed on them.

48 pupils in Primary Seven were attending a party at the time the building collapsed. All the pupils were retrieved from the rubble alive, but 10 were rushed to Bukatuube Health Center III for treatment.

Tapenensi Babirye, a parent says that her 14-year-old son sustained injuries on the head and was rushed to Mayuge Health Center IV for further management. Babirye however, challenged the school authorities to ensure that the school buildings are renovated or new ones constructed.

Another parent Mary Nakaziba says that her 12-year-old daughter sustained wounds on the back and required stitches. Nakaziba argues that the structures are dilapidated and should be demolisheed.



Aisha Kawala, the head teacher, Aisha Kawala, says that the school will be temporarily closed for two days to clear the rubble.

Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Diana Nandawula says that the police fire and rescue services department will keep guard at the school to ensure the safe evacuation of pupils from the surrounding classrooms.
