A student getting vaccinated
Victoria University in partnership with Ministry of Health and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has started vaccinating its students and staff against COVID-19.
On Tuesday, the University staff and students overwhelmingly embraced the vaccination exercise.
Dr. Lawrence Muganga, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor at Victoria University described the exercise as timely and life-preserving initiative.
”We are vaccinating all our students and staff because we have a primary responsibility to keep our stakeholders healthy,” Dr. Muganga said.
He added that the University wants 100% vaccination of all students and staff for a safe learning environment.
He noted that 80% of the students have been vaccinated while 97% of the staff have received their first jabs.
He said staff who refuse to be vaccinated will not be sacked but will have to work from home.
Ugandans are increasingly embracing COVID-19 vaccination following a surge in cases.
According to Ministry of Health, Uganda has 47,761 confirmed cases.
Cumulative Ugandan recoveries stand at 46,150 while deaths stand at 362.
