The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has set a deadline for traders to remove goods in the Customs warehouse.
In a notice issued on Monday October4, 2021, traders are expected to pay all the requisite taxes, fees, penalties, fines and charges that will have accrued in a period of 30 days.
“Pursuant to S. 42 (1) of the East African Community Customs Management Act 2004, the Commissioner Customs requests the general public and all owners of goods that have exceeded their statutory clearance and warehousing period (un-customed goods) to clear the same within 30 days from the date of this Public Notice by paying all the requisite taxes, fees, penalties, fines and charges that will have accrued thereon,” the notice reads in part.
After 30 days, URA says the goods shall be auctioned.
“All the goods that remain un-cleared after 30 days of this notice shall be disposed of by way of ON-LINE PUBLIC AUCTION or otherwise as deemed fit by the Commissioner,” adds the notice.
The auction process shall be conducted on-line.
The on-line viewing of goods for an on-line auction shall commence on November 4, 2021 and shall end on November 9, 2021 while the bidding process will run from November 16, 2021 to November 21, 2021.
