URA Extends Due Date For Filing Local Duty Return For November

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has extended the due date for filing the local excise duty return for November 2024.

Following the introduction of the web-based excise duty return effective November 1, 2024, the URA says that “all taxpayers who are required to file excise duty returns that the due date for submission of the excise duty return for November 2024 has been extended from 15th December 2024 to 31st December 2024.”

The Assistant Commissioner, Public and Corporate Affairs at the URA, Robert Kalumba, says that “This is to allow taxpayers ample time to transition from the Excel-based return to the web-based return.”

As part of the transition, Kalumba added that manufacturers and importers of excisable goods or providers of excisable services are reminded to note the following:

i. All products and services should be registered on the web platform by their Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) or brand names;

ii. Manufacturers and importers of goods gazetted to be affixed with Digital Tax Stamps (DTS) are advised to validate the accuracy and completeness of the registered SKUs in the Excise Duty Filing System.

“The accuracy of the excise duty return depends on the completeness of the registered products or brands,” said Kalumba.

He appealed to taxpayers to use the window to comply.
