UPDF: No One Will Destabilize Uganda’s Peace

Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) is ever ready to defend the peace of the country at any cost. These remarks were made by Maj. General Stephen Tumusiime Rwabantu, the Deputy Commander of the Reserve Forces Monday morning at UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya, at a ceremony held to decorate the 62 officers that were recently promoted to different ranks by the Commander in Chief, President Yoweri Museveni.

Rwabantu revealed how he is ready to join his boss in the bush again, like was the case in 1981 if the peace and stability of Uganda is threatened.

“People who are thinking that they may come up and destalise this country, they are night dreamers because we are still around and we shall protect the peace we brought no matter what it takes,” he warned.

He added that Uganda’s enemies shouldn’t think of the bush war heroes as tired and old lot, saying they still have the ability to thwart any threats to the country.

“We are growing old, but we are still able. So if anybody wants to destablise this country, this peace didn’t come on a silver plate. We lost our people in the bush, some of us are casualties but here we are. So we are warning those who keep running around and think they will destablise [Uganda], they should think twice,” Rwabantu said.

The Reserve Forces boss joins former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Edward Katumba Wamala who made the same threats in February 2018, when he vowed to fight against those who wish to unseat President Museveni without using constitutional means. These comments come at a time when the country is facing insecurity, with many people dying mysteriously without proper explanation.

Meanwhile, newly decorated Major General Kasirye Gwanga who had on many occasions criticized the promotion criteria within the Forces, snubbed the pimping ceremony that would see him get decorated from Brigadier to a General.
